When to make Spiced Pear Muffins

Fall of the year.

These are great to make when you find Pears on sale typically at the end of Summer or Early Fall.

This unique muffin recipe is perfect for Fall. All the fall flavors gently blended into pear muffin.

How to Tell if a Pear is Ripe

Use ripe pears for maximum flavor.

To tell if a pear is ripe gently press on the pear and if it gives then it is ready to eat.

Spices

Before baking, check the expiration dates on your spices. Spices to expire and lose their flavor.

Also, check your baking powder expiration date. If you have expired baking powder toss it out. Expired baking powder does affect how your baked goods turn out.

I use Rumford Baking Powder. It is aluminum-free. Why aluminum-free? Aluminum is a food additive that the body does not need and long term exposure can lead to health problems.

To Glaze or Not to Glaze

If you are having problems trying to find Pear Nectar I find it in the juice aisle or the Mexican food aisle of my grocery store.

Be sure to buy nectar and not juice.

These spiced pear muffins are great even without the glaze.

We won’t hold it against you if you skip the glaze.

But for those of you who take that extra step, high five! Awesome right?!

It just takes the muffin to a whole new level.

Some people put butter on their muffins. Today we put a glaze!

This glaze is also good on other breakfast foods like pancakes and waffles.

Muffin Making Tips

  • When making these muffins or any muffin don’t over mix.
  • Mix gently and with fewer strokes as possible.

The more you mix the more they turn into cement. Ok, not cement maybe hockey pucks. They are hard and not light and airy. Just mix until ingredients are combined.

Whatever you do don’t turn on your kitchen-aid mixer and walk away.
