Citrus Vodka Sage Cocktail

Catch those cool winter vibes with this fresh citrus-squeezed Vodka Sage Cocktail.

Sage Cocktail

A light and refreshing vodka sage cocktail made with grapefruit, satsuma, vodka, and simple syrup and topped off with club soda. Garnished with fresh sage from the garden.

Ingredients for Citrus Vodka Sage Cocktail

  • grapefruit
  • satsuma
  • simple syrup
  • vodka
  • club soda
  • fresh sage

How to Make a Sage Cocktail

In a shaker add cracked ice, both juices, simple syrup, and vodka. Shake until the shaker is frosted. Pour the cocktail over ice in a tall highball glass Top off with club soda and garnish with sage. Pinch the sage to release its aroma. Then serve.

The smells of the citrus and the sage are amazing.

Vodka Substitutions

Get creative and use a flavored vodka like Citron or Orange.

If you don’t have any vodka on hand you can use Gin.

Simple Syrup

To make a simple syrup it is a 1:1 ratio. 1 part water and 1 part sugar. Add water and sugar to a saucepan and simmer; stirring occasionally; until the sugar has melted. Let cool.

Transfer the simple syrup to a container. I use a mason jar with a lid. Keep it in the fridge for up to a week.

Simple Syrup Variations

When making your simple syrup add a sprig or two of fresh sage to infuse your syrup.

The Citrus

With the wide variety of citrus grown in different areas of the United States Citrus is available year-round. But Citrus is in its prime in the winter.

For this recipe, I used grapefruit and satsuma. Grapefruit is normally readily available at the grocery store but satsuma might be a little harder to find.

  • Satsuma: Seedless, easy-peel cold hardy mandarin.

Because these gorgeous mandarins are not always stocked in the produce section you can use tangerine, mandarin orange, or navel orange instead. But when you see the satsuma grab them! They are wonderful.

Citrus Substitutions

Swap out Satsuma for:

  • Tangerine
  • Mandarin Orange
  • Navel Orange.

Flaviar.com provided me with their Cocktail Unveil Tasting Box in exchange for an honest review of their product.

This was Fun!

Honestly, guys, this was really fun. The box contained some great spirit options. They have other tasting box options or you can buy full-sized bottles of booze at a discount.

The sample tubes have a generous amount of liquor in them. It is enough for 2 people to enjoy. This tasting box is a great gift or buy it for yourself. It is also really fun when entertaining friends.
