How to Make a Whiskey Sour
How to Make a Simple Syrup
- To make simple syrup it is a 1:1 ratio of water and sugar heated over medium-low until sugar melts. I typically will do 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar.
First, gather and prep your ingredients. Crack your egg and separate the egg white from the yolk. Next, squeeze your lemons for fresh juice.
Add ice and all the ingredients to your cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously. This is going to create that silky foam top. Strain into an Old Fashioned glass and garnish with a lemon twist.
The egg white gives this cocktail that silky foam top. Since we use egg white in our whiskey sours they are often also referred to as a Boston Sour.
Garnish
A gorgeous lemon twist comes with a little practice. First, you need a really good peeler. I recommend the Titan Peelers. I have had mine for over 10 years now and put many miles on it and it still works like a champ!
When you peel your lemon try not to get any of the pith. The pith is the white stringy puffy stuff under the skin of the fruit.
Peel a long strip. Either by hand or wrap around a bar spoon twist the lemon peel creating a hollow straw. You want to do this over the drink so the oils will spritz misting the top of the cocktail. Delicately place the lemon twist on top of the foam.
