More Detail on Melting Chocolate in the Microwave
Begin by chopping the chocolate into small, even pieces so it melts uniformly. Place it in a clean, completely dry microwave-safe bowl.
Be careful: Any moisture will cause the chocolate to seize into a stiff, grainy paste!
Microwave on medium heat for 30-second bursts, stirring thoroughly after each interval. Stirring is just as important as heating because the bowl’s residual warmth helps melt the remaining bits without overcooking. When the chocolate is about 80–90 % melted, switch to 10-second bursts and continue stirring until perfectly smooth.
⚠️ Heat Warning:
Chocolate is very sensitive to high temperatures. If the heat is too strong, even for a few seconds, the cocoa solids can scorch and the mixture will seize, turning thick, clumpy, and unworkable mess.
For an ultra-smooth, glossy coating, you can also stir in a teaspoon of neutral oil (such as vegetable or refined coconut) once the chocolate is fully melted.

Peanut Butter OREO Balls Recipe Tips
- Use different OREO Cookie flavors like mint, lemon, and golden to make different OREO truffles.
- Soften cream cheese in a hurry by opening the package, remove the foil wrapping, and place on a microwave-safe plate. Microwave for 15 to 20 seconds.
- Use a fork and a spoon when rolling the balls in chocolate. Use the spoon to help cover the ball in chocolate and use the fork to lift the ball out of the melted chocolate.

Handling Leftover OREO Balls
Refrigeration:
Place the finished peanut butter OREO balls in a single layer in an airtight container. If stacking them, separate layers with parchment or wax paper so the chocolate coating doesn’t stick or crack. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Avoid Moisture:
Keep the container tightly sealed. Any moisture, especially if you open the container frequently, can lead to a sticky surface or sugar bloom (a white coating on the chocolate).
Freezing:
These truffles freeze beautifully. Arrange them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze until solid, then transfer to a freezer-safe container or zip-top bag. They’ll keep for 2–3 months. To serve, move them to the refrigerator for several hours or overnight to thaw slowly; this prevents condensation from forming on the chocolate shell.
