Grapefruit Brulee is sliced grapefruit with a burnt sugar crust made with a kitchen blow torch. Serve it over vanilla ice cream for a delicious dessert.
I bought a big bag of grapefruit to make my Cilantro Grapefruit Gin & Tonics and had some grapefruit leftover. I couldn’t let them go to waste. Any excuse to use a blow torch in the kitchen right!? Grapefruit Brulee is a quick and impressive dessert to throw together. I like Grapefruit Brulee over ice cream. Don’t want ice cream. Cut along the skin of the grapefruit so it can be easily removed. Use the skin like a bowl and eat it as is.
Remember when you were a kid and despised grapefruit? Even refused to acknowledge it as apart of the citrus family. That awful taste! Yuck. The only person you saw eating grapefruit was your grandmother. The good ol days. Now that you are all grown up and your palate is more sophisticated grapefruit is now a trendy fruit. We are far from the days of just sprinkling a little bit of sugar on it. We juice it for cocktails, toss it in salads, grill it, and even torch it.
That burnt sugar layer is everything!!!! You will be asking yourself what other fruit can I do this with? Put the blow torch down. I know it is fun and you want to brulee everything now. Eat your dessert! That warm grapefruit is melting that ice cream and it is a dreamy concoction of flavors. Enjoy!
Are you done with dessert?
