Ingredient Highlight: Old Fashioned Rolled or Steel Cut Oats
For Crock Pot oatmeal, it’s important to use either old fashioned rolled oats or steel cut oats. These types of oats hold up to the long, slow cooking process without turning into mush.
- Steel Cut Oats are the best choice if you want a hearty, chewy texture. They take longer to cook, which makes them ideal for slow cooking overnight.
- Old Fashioned Rolled Oats will give you a creamier consistency but still hold their shape in the Crock Pot.
👉 Avoid quick oats or instant oats:
They’ll break down too quickly in the slow cooker and leave you with pasty oatmeal instead of a satisfying, textured bowl. Quick oats are better for no bake chocolate oatmeal cookies (not exactly your conventional breakfast but still delicious).

Handling Leftovers Oatmeal!
If you have leftovers, place them in an airtight container and refrigerate them.
To reheat, place in a microwavable safe bowl and add a splash of milk. Microwave in 30-second intervals until heated through.
Meal-Prep Oatmeal
This is the perfect type of recipe for meal-prepping your breakfast. I make a big batch over the weekend and pop it in a couple of containers. Then throughout the week, take out the container, drizzle over some maple syrup and pop it in the microwave!
